Four lucky hunters will be selected by a random drawing on April 17 from those who apply. Participants will be provided with food, beverages, and lodging in the Darlene Soave Lodge. Volunteer hosts will help make you comfortable. Experienced guides will help outfit you and set you up for success. We can assist with some equipment, such as shotguns, turkey calls, and decoys. There is no cost to anyone who participates.
Camp Liberty’s 138 acres are loaded with wild turkeys. Hunters will need to obtain a spring turkey license for Hunting Unit ZZ through a Michigan DNR license dealer or the MDNR website. Active-duty military personnel and Veterans with disabilities qualify for free hunting licenses through any MDNR license dealer. You will need to sign a Camp Liberty outdoor recreation waiver as well.
We recommend that you bring a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun with a medium to full choke. Shotgun shells using a shot size of four or five are recommended. Camouflage clothing appropriate for the weather and waterproof boots are recommended, but if you hunt from one of our blinds, camo is not necessary. You will also need to provide your transportation to and from Camp Liberty. However, let us know if you need some gear or a ride. We may be able to help.
