Spring Turkey Hunting Program

March 8, 2024 by Camp Liberty

CAMP LIBERTY SPRING TURKEY HUNTING PROGRAM

Applications are now being accepted for Spring Turkey Hunting at Camp Liberty, which will be held from April 24 to 28.  Active-duty Service Members and Veterans are welcome to apply.  All levels of physical ability are also encouraged to apply as Camp Liberty can assist with mobility devices and accessible hunting locations.  The application deadline ends at 11:59 on March 29, 2023.

To apply, click on the following link: Camp Liberty Spring Turkey Hunt Application

Four lucky hunters will be selected by a random drawing on April 17 from those who apply.  Participants will be provided with food, beverages, and lodging in the Darlene Soave Lodge.  Volunteer hosts will help make you comfortable.  Experienced guides will help outfit you and set you up for success.  We can assist with some equipment, such as shotguns, turkey calls, and decoys.  There is no cost to anyone who participates.

Camp Liberty’s 138 acres are loaded with wild turkeys.  Hunters will need to obtain a spring turkey license for Hunting Unit ZZ through a Michigan DNR license dealer or the MDNR website.  Active-duty military personnel and Veterans with disabilities qualify for free hunting licenses through any MDNR license dealer.  You will need to sign a Camp Liberty outdoor recreation waiver as well.

We recommend that you bring a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun with a medium to full choke.  Shotgun shells using a shot size of four or five are recommended.  Camouflage clothing appropriate for the weather and waterproof boots are recommended, but if you hunt from one of our blinds, camo is not necessary.  You will also need to provide your transportation to and from Camp Liberty.  However, let us know if you need some gear or a ride.  We may be able to help.

To apply, click on the link above or cut and paste this URL in your internet browser:  https://forms.gle/3tyrHbqYjEAy265X7.  Then fill out the simple form.  Applications through Facebook Messenger or email are not accepted.

If you have other questions, please email camplibertyinc@gmail.com.  Thanks, and we wish you success during this Spring Wild Turkey Season!
