Deer Hunting

August 4, 2023 by Camp Liberty

We are pleased to announce that Camp Liberty’s deer hunting programs will be offered again this fall.  We are inviting active-duty military and veterans to submit their interest in participating in any of the following opportunities:

  • Liberty Hunt – September 9 – 10 – Open to disabled veterans – The application deadline is August 18.
  • Dave Drummond Memorial Independence Hunt – October 19 – 22 – Open to disabled veterans. The application deadline is September 15.
  • Firearm Deer Season – November 15 to 19 – Open to the four active duty and veterans that donated the most time to Camp Liberty from January 1, 2023, through Oct. 30, 2023.
  • Muzzleloading – December 9 to 12 – Open to active duty and veterans. (Shotguns, Slug guns, and straight-wall cartridge rifles may also be used.)  The application deadline is November 10.

2022 SUCCESSFUL HUNTERS

In 2023, Camp Liberty hosted 24 veteran and active-duty hunters.  12 were successful in harvesting a deer.  Camp Liberty has planted 8 food plots as part of this year’s conservation plan.  We expect that this will be a good year for whitetails and have already observed some nice bucks this summer.  Camp Liberty will provide lodging, food, heated hunting blinds, and a guide to assist you.  You may use your own firearm or Camp Liberty can coordinate your use of a firearm.  You will need to arrange your own transportation to Camp Liberty and your hunting license.  Hunting licenses may be free for Michigan resident veterans with a disability and active-duty military personnel.

We expect that there will be more applicants for deer hunting than Camp Liberty can accommodate.  Hunters will be determined through a random drawing administered by Camp Liberty’s Hunting Committee.  To apply to hunt at Camp Liberty, click the following link, fill out the application, and click on submit.

All those that apply will be notified whether or not they have been selected.  Applications submitted on Facebook or Messenger will not be accepted, although general questions posted on Facebook will be answered.

Thanks, and we hope to see you at the buck pole!
